 Microsoft launched Windows 8 and Surface tablet in New York 25/10/2012, showcasing all the tablets and PCs that will be running on the new OS. Devices running the new OS will go on sale today in some markets, with the Surface RT tablet available in eight countries.

Windows 8 is now available in 140 countries and 37 languages, to consumers it will be available in two versions: Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro. There's Windows 8 Enterprise for large organizations, while OEMs will be able to deploy Windows 8 on ARM-based tablets, such as the Surface RT.




Steven Sinofsky speaks at the launch of Windows 8 operating system in New York. Microsoft has made a limited time-only offer, where you can upgrade from XP, Vista and 7 to Windows 8 Pro for Rs. 1,999. The cut-off date for this offer is Jan 2013.


The system requirements for Windows 8 are fairly minimal: a 1 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM / 20 GB available hard disk space, and a 1366×768 screen resolution display. Devices running the new OS will go on sale today in some markets, with the Surface RT tablet available in eight countries.


Over a thousand new PCs have been certified for use with Windows 8, said Sinofsky at the launch, with prices starting at $300.
